1-Performative: I order you to eat. I request that you eat.
2-Imperative: You eat your lunch now. Eat your lunch. Let's have lunch.
3-Peremptory declarative: You will eat your lunch this instant. This bar will close at 11 sharp tonight
4- Explicit request: Can/Could/Will/Would you come now?
5- Interrogatives and declarative that explicitly contain the requested act: When are you coming?/ Are the letters typed yet?/ You are the man who can fix my radio./This bar needs cleaning.
6- Sentences in which the act requested is not explicitly mentioned: This house is a mess./ You'll die of lung cancer.
B- What are the four sub-principles or maxims of the Cooperative Principle? Give one example for each one. P 135 (10)
1. The maxim of quantity:
Make your contribution as informative as required.
Don’t make your contribution more informative than required.
2. The maxim of quality:
Don't say what you believe to be false.
Don't say something which you lack adequate evidence for.
3. The maxim of relation:
Make your contribution relevant.
4. The maxim of manners:
a. Avoid obscurity. b. Avoid ambiguity. c. Be brief. d. Be orderly
